On August 30, 2023, Frank and Hildebrandt were apprehended in Ivins, Utah. Two days later, they were formally accused of six counts of aggravated child abuse, a felony. The Santa Clara-Ivins Department of Public Safety disclosed that the arrest was initiated after Franke’s 12-year-old son, who was visibly malnourished with “open wounds and duct tape around his hands,” escaped through Hildebrandt’s window. The boy sought help from a neighbor, requesting food and water. Emergency services discovered Franke’s 10-year-old daughter in the residence, also suffering from malnutrition. Both children were admitted to the hospital, where the boy received treatment for severe malnutrition and “deep lacerations caused by tying with rope.” A subsequent investigation of the home revealed evidence “consistent with” the 12-year-old’s account. The Utah Division of Children and Family Services intervened, taking custody of the boy, girl, and Franke’s two other children. Authorities later revealed that the boy claimed red chili and honey were used to treat his wounds.
Franke and Hildebrandt were detained without bail. Hildebrandt voluntarily gave up his counseling license while awaiting the court case outcome and a disciplinary inquiry. After being apprehended, Franke was prohibited from using YouTube, and two channels linked to him were taken down.
